Current projects . . .

The following projects are in progress.  To get involved or find out more please contact projects@arcadiavillages.co.uk or Owen Mills on 01264 771195/Rob Buchele on 01264 771671

Play Area Phase 1

The current Play Area team was formed in November 2008 and comprised Lucy Quill, Caroline Hughes, Jenny Hopkins, Lorna Fitzpatrick , Rob Buchele and Ella and Michael Clayton.  The team consulted with the local community and raised £37,250 with the generous support of the community plus the following sponsors:-

Hampshire County Council  -  Test Valley Borough Council  -  Testway Transform Money Box Fund  -  Hampshire Playing Fields
Appleshaw Parish Council

The project was installed a litte earlier than anticipated in July 2009 and was been in constant use ever since come rain or shine by determined and fun-loving local children and families.

Play Area Phase 2 - on hold

Thanks to all of you who completed the survey on the need for sports and recreation for older children and adults, including a possible 'Quiet Zone' where it would be possible to sit in the shade with a good book or meet up with friends.

After a lot of consultation and the support of over 200 people from the village for phase 2, we are now at the point of needing to apply for planning permission from the local council.

We have been fortunate to engender the support of the National Lottery for a substantial sum of money and, with the help of some key members of the community, have been able to complete a final draft of our application.

Before taking the expensive step of applying for planning, we now need someone from the community to step up to take the project forward.

Village Hall

We have been very fortunate to have been gifted the Village Hall and the Playing Field. As a focal point in the village we are keen to make sure that the Hall continues to provide the facilities needed by all the community.

Exciting new plans for the development of the Hall are in the pipeline, of which more later on in the year. The first really urgent task, though, is to replace the heating system which has been of spasmodic use ever since it was installed and has meant that Pippins Pre-School has had to use independent heaters since the beginning of this term. We are conducting a survey of the systems in other village halls and our aim is to complete the work before next winter.   Here is our 'to do' list!

1.  Improved kitchen: we are losing some bookings because the current area is too narrow to work in easily when the Hall has to cater to its capacity.
2.  New bar area: Mr Berry Leighton Boyce has already suggested using part of the new storage area as a secure bar, with a hatch opening on to the Main
Hall and the entrance through the store door.
3.  Heating system: this can be noisy and unpredictable.
4.  Lighting: present lighting is too hard and cannot be phased.
5.  Loos: these could be improved and tiled.
6.  Showers: these could be improved.
7.  Pippins: find out what they need from Hall management in order to keep them as customers. Do they require further facilities?
8.  Small meeting room: this would give a further facility to let if the main Hall is booked.
9.  Shutter/divider for main Hall: this would give an extra facility.
